| The membership of the Huntingtown VFD is ecstatic to announce and welcome home Simon Thomas; past Assistant Chief of the Solomons VRSFD and career firefighter with the National Institute of Health (NIH). In August, Simon Thomas was critically injured while vacationing in Florida. For several weeks, he had been in a coma with severe head trauma and brain swelling, listed in critical condition. Simon underwent several surgeries including a decompressive craniectomy.
During his hospitalization and recovery, firefighters from across the country prayed and offered their support. The West Palm Beach Fire and Rescue made daily visits to the family to offer support and provide meals. His fellow brothers at NIH had been in contact with the Don't Panic Foundation and two Chapters of the Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society which worked to provide some of the additional help needed over the recovery.
Just yesterday, Simon was able to get back out on Solomons VRSFD Boat 3. It is great to have Simon back and seeing the great progress he is currently making! |
