Well-involved House Fire in Huntingtown

By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
July 20, 2005

On Sunday July 17, 2005, at 0110 hours, Engine 61 (F/F Nasti), Squad 6 (Lt Montgomery), Tanker 6 (Chief Osbourn), and Ambulance 69 (EMS Lt Nutwell) were quadru-pulled to the 1300 block of Carmel Road (Company 2's first due) in the south-side of Huntingtown for the house fire. Chief 6B (Hayes) arrived as the call was being dispatched and reported heavy fire showing from Side "A" and "C" and established the Command. First arriving Engine 61 advanced an attack line through the front door. Engine 21's crew advanced a 2nd line off of E-61 and the two crews found the interior 75% involved. The crew from Squad 2 and Squad 6 began search and rescue and then assisted in extinguishment. Early reports indicated the possibility of children trapped but search efforts proved this to be false. The fire was brought under control by a quick attack from assisting companies. Three firefighters were transported for precautionary measures to Calvert Memorial due to heat exhaustion. Command held units until 0330 hours. Job well done to all units on the fire ground.
