By Chief Jonathan Riffe
March 7, 2012

Wednesday March 7, 2012 at 2059 hours, Firefighters from Huntingtown VFD, Dunkirk VFD, Prince Frederick VFD & North Beach VFD were dispatched for the Barn Fire at 925 Pat Lane. Units alerted from the Huntingtown VFD included: The Fire Chief (Riffe), AFC (Montgomery), Safety Officer (McKenny), Engine 61 (Stewart), Squad 6 (Jeffery, M), Tanker 6 (Stream), Brush 6 (Smith, D) and Ambulance 68 (Gaylor). Units from the Huntingtown VFD arrived on location of a barn several hundred feet long fully-involved with fire. In addition, a trailer and shed were on fire as well as the woods surrounding the barn.

Engine 61 laid a supply line and advanced an attack line to protect an exposed house and knock down the fire in the trailer and shed. Dunkirk VFD Engine 51 arrived, supplied Engine 61 and assisted with a back-up line. Prince Frederick VFD Engine 21 arrived on location, laid a secondary supply line and advanced an additional line (3rd line) to assist with extinguishing the fire. North Beach VFD Engine 11 arrived, supplied Engine 21 and advanced a 4th line to assist units at work.

A Working Fire Dispatch was dispatched along with 3-4 additional Tankers for Water Supply, as well as several Chief Officers from surrounding departments. Once an effective Water Supply was established, Tower 1 was supplied, set up for ladder pipe operations and began knocking down the bulk of the fire via heavy duty operations.

Units from the Huntingtown VFD operated on the scene until 0023 hours.
