| After 12 years of faithfully serving as the mascot, bird chaser, best friend, watchful eye, motorcycle chaser and firehouse dog, the Huntingtown VFD regretfully announces the passing of "Rocky" the dalmatian. Born December 1, 1999, Rocky was donated to the Huntingtown Volunteers shortly after the tragic passing of "Rosie," another dalmation and part of the Huntingtown VFD family who also served faithfully for over a decade.
For 11 years, Rocky lived at the firehouse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, sleeping with the members, eating with the members and riding on the firetruck to calls until old age began to sink in. One year ago, due to health issues, Rocky moved to West Virginia to reside with a life-time member of the department and to enjoy the "retirement" life; running wild in the fields and mountains. During the past year however, he still came back home regularly to the Huntingtown VFD to visit with his life long friends. On Wednesday March 7, 2012, due to health issues not improving, Rocky was laid to rest. Rocky is gone but will never be forgotten.
RIP Rocky: December 1, 1999--March 7, 2012 |
