Busy Day for Huntingtown Volunteers; And One Extricated

By Chief Jonathan Riffe
August 3, 2010

Tuesday August 3, 2010 was a busy day for the Volunteers of Huntingtown FD. With several crews in quarters and some extra energy and pride, everybody took part in cleaning the entire station, the bays, washing down the parking lots, pressure washing the concrete and fuel tanks, painting the benches, washing all the apparatus and driver's training. At 1509 hours, Huntingtown VFD (Chief 6A, Chief 6B, Chief 6C, Engine 61, Squad 6, Ambulance 69) was alerted for an electrical fire in a residence. Units found a faulty radio and returned to service.

Shortly after returning to quarters, North Beach VFD and Ambulance 69 (Williams) were alerted for the auto accident (102 box). With units enroute, Communications received supplemental information that people were trapped in the vehicle. The assignment was upgraded bringing Chief 6A, Chief 6C, Chief 6C and Squad 6 (Nasti). Squad 6 arrived on location and went to work removing both driver's side doors and "B" post with the HURST "O" cutters, Maverick Combi-tool, Jaws and Ram. Ambulance 69 transported two patients to Calvert Memorial Hospital. A 3rd patient was flown to a local trauma center. Engine 62 handled the Landing Zone. During this incident, Brush 6 responded to an auto fire at 36 Dalrymple Road and found the fire out upon arrival.

This not counting a 2nd vehicle fire, a reported serious auto accident and several other medical emergencies. Many thanks to the 4 (and at one point 5) crews that staffed the station today.
