This past Monday September 18, 2006, four members of Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department were invited (free of charge) to the annual Caitlin Meire Hurrey Golf Tournament at Twin Shields in Dunkirk, MD. The 4-man team (Chief Osbourn, Chief Riffe, Chief Hayes, Chief's Aide Morris) were invited personally by Caitlin Meire's father. This tournament has been ongoing for the past decade. Several years ago, Caitlin perished in a car accident on Lower Marlboro Road. Since that time, her father has promised and has held a golf tournament every year in her name. This is the first year that the tournament was held in Calvert County. The teams usually cost $600 but Mr. Meire invited us for free and promised the same thing for every year after. Our 4-man Huntingtown team may not have come in first place but we had a great time and appreciate the hospitality provided during the tournament. On a side note---three awards were presented during the raffle to the Huntingtown VFD team. For more information, please visit: www.menc.org/golf
