This past Wednesday October 23, 2013, 5 members of the Huntingtown VFD (and their guests) attended an annual event in the memory of Caitlin Merie Hurrey. In the past several years, Caitlin's father, Earl Hurrey, has hosted an annual golf tournament that the Huntingtown VFD always attends. This year however, the event was changed to an "Arts Alive" Gala. The gala took place from 5-10 pm at the Holiday Inn in Solomon's, MD with several popular and famous people to note. Florence Henderson of “The Brady Bunch“ hosted the entire event. Entertainment was provided by Shaun Canon from American Idol and Ryan and Ashleigh DiLello from “So You Think You Can Dance.“ This is the 8th year in a row that the Huntingtown VFD has been personally invited by Mr. Hurrey. In 1995, Caitlin tragically perished in a car accident that occurred in Huntingtown. Since that time, her father has held an event in honor of her name. History:

The Caitlin Merie Hurrey Fund (CMH Fund) was established in 2003 by the Earl Hurrey Family to honor their daughter who passed away at age 9. Caitlin was a budding musician who had an uncanny talent and love for music and composition.

Description and Purpose:

The Caitlin Merie Hurrey Fund has been established at the Arts Council of Calvert County (ACCC) in cooperation with the Earl Hurrey Family to support music education. The CMH Fund is designed to be an endowment fund, which will provide funding for the existing 4 scholarships.

The purpose of the CMH Fund is to establish a mechanism for providing scholarships to high school seniors, in good standing, who are planning to attend or currently attending an accredited college or university. In addition, the CMH Fund will support music education programs by providing financial support for graduating music education majors who are pursuing a profession in music education.

A total of 4 scholarships will be awarded in each year in which all fundraising goals have been met, and when the CMH Fund has sufficient funds to cover the required amounts. The CMH Fund is designed to allow additional scholarships in the future as the Fund grows.
