| A few days ago, a handful of members traveled to Duck, NC for a week long vacation in the Outer Banks. Last night at approximately 2230 hours, Assistant Chief Michael Montgomery, Firefighter Scott Bowen, Firefighter Dylan Smith and Firefighter Michael Montgomery Jr were sitting outside of their beach house and noticed a large glow in the sky. The four firefighters immediately went to investigate. They arrived on Widgedon Street and located a large brush fire that was impinging onto three large 3-story beach houses. The firefighters immediately began using nearby garden hoses, extending the hoses by adding sections and located a couple fire extinguishers from homeowners. It took approximately 15 minutes to extinguish the fire and what had extended into the houses, just as the Duck Volunteer Fire Department brush truck arrived on the scene. Minutes later, an Engine, Tower and Tanker arrived on location to find that the fire had already been extinguished. If it was not for the brave actions and quick thinking of the above four firefighters, at least three (and possibly more) beach houses would have been devastated by fire. |
