A major late-autumn storm blanketed parts of the northeastern United States, after dumping a record amount of snow on the nation's capital and other areas along the mid-Atlantic coast.

The U.S. National Weather Service issued a Blizzard Warning and Weather Storm Warning as over 2' of snow fell across Huntingtown and other areas of Southern Maryland. Saturday, Governor Martin O'Malley declared a State of Emergency.

Before the snowfall ended early Sunday morning in Washington, officials urged area residents to stay home and avoid driving because the storm was dropping snow faster than crews could clear it.

During this time period, the Volunteers of Huntingtown VFD were able to staff every piece of apparatus and responded on a variety of calls. Currently (as of Monday evening), many roadways and the majority of driveways in Calvert County have not seen a snow plow.
