As previously mentioned two weeks ago, Squad 6 has been the only Squad in service for the past several weeks from Huntingtown to Hollywood, MD (St Mary's County)----a 33.15 mile distance. During this time period, a few times Dunkirk Squad 5 has been out of service, Huntingtown Squad 6 has been the only Squad in service from Upper Marlboro, MD to Hollywood, MD-----45.80 miles. In addition, North Beach VFD Rescue 1 has been out of service for minor mechanical issues.

In August, Squad 6 responded to 13 runs.
In September, Squad 6 responded to 39 runs (a 300% increase as units began to go out of service).
In October, Squad 6 responded to a total of 52 runs (a huge 400% increase from August 2009).

The above Squad's/Rescue continue to remain out of service, foreshadowing a busy November month. Squad 6 has already been responding as the 1st due Squad on Box Alarms in the county, where our Engine is typically 5th due.

On a side-note, with this huge spike in calls, as well as the approximate 2,500-3,000 calls the Huntingtown VFD responds to annually, the Volunteers at Huntingtown have provided 100% coverage to the citizens of Calvert County. The last "scratch" (failed to respond) was in May, 2007. Many thanks to all the dedicated men and women of the Huntingtown VFD. Currently, 11 members reside nightly at Huntingtown VFD. This does not count the members that sleep here a few times a week. At times, 15 members will be sleeping in the individual bunkrooms at our great station.
