| Saturday December 13, 2008, the Huntingtown VFD was invited to assist in the final burn of the old "DJ's" mini-mart at 9470 HG Trueman Road in Lusby, MD. On February 8, 2008, the carry-out portion of the building sustained major damage in an overnight fire causing $450,000 in damage. The other half of the building (living quarters) however was not damaged. At 0615 hours, as the Huntingtown Volunteers were about to leave for the burn, Chief 6 (Riffe), Safety Officer 6 (Bowen), Squad 6 (Nasti), Engine 62 (Lt Thrasher), and Ambulance 69 (Fitzgerald) were alerted for the auto accident at Route 4 & Cox Road. Units arrived to find the same. Two patients were transported by Ambulance 69 & Prince Frederick Ambulance 47. Minutes after returning to quarters, Chief 6, Chief 6C (Hayes), Tanker 6 & Air Unit 6 left for the training exercise. Several evolutions were conducted on both floors before the building was finally lit off for the final time. Units from the Huntingtown VFD did not return home until 1530 hours (9 hours). 30 minutes after returning home, Engine 62, Squad 6, Ambulance 69, Command 6, and Utility 6 were back out the door for the 3rd night of the annual Santa Run (5 hours). Many thanks to the dedicated Volunteers for non-stop participation for 14 hours. Thanks again to Chief 3 (Wilson) & Solomons VRSFD for the invite to the burn. |
