Early this Thanksgiving morning, Thursday November 27, 2008 at 0309 hours, Chief 6 (Riffe), Lieutenant 6 (Thrasher), Engine 62 (Nasti), and Tanker 6 (Fitzgerald) were alerted for the house fire at 3650 5th Street. First arriving units from the North Beach VFD (Company 1) arrived with fire showing from the rear and through the roof of the 1 story single family house with the occupants reported trapped. Engine 62, dispatched 4th due, arrived shortly after first due units. Initially, the 6 man crew split into two teams; one crew opened up the roof, while the remainder of the crew handled RIT responsibilities. Shortly after, Engine 62's crew worked with interior crews on searching the residence (turned negative), forcing two doors, and opening up the remainder of the house for overhaul. Immediately, Communications dispatched the Working Fire Dispatch, bringing Engine 61 (S/O Bowen) 1st due with an additional 5 person crew. Once the fire was knocked down, Command held Company 1 and Engine 62. The 18 Huntingtown Volunteers operated on the scene until 0539 hours. An additional 3 members remained in quarters during this incident.
