| This Friday afternoon, August 29, 2008, at 1332 hours, Communications began receiving multiple telephone calls of a house on fire at 4131 Birch Drive, in Huntingtown (217 box). This alarm brought Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6B (Montgomery), Chief 6C (Hayes), Engine 62 (Lt Thrasher), and Squad 6 (Capt McKenny). Immediately after dispatch, Communications alerted the Working Fire Dispatch bringing a 4th crew from quarters aboard Tanker 6 (Buckler), for a total of 13 Huntingtown Volunteers. Chief 2 and Engine 21 arrived with heavy fire through the roof, in the attic, and consuming the 2nd floor. Squad 6 arrived as the 2nd piece, and with the confirmation of all occupants out of the residence, immediately made entry to the 2nd floor and began opening up the ceiling. Engine 62 arrived 3rd, pulled the 200' back-up attack line and assisted crews in going to work. Due to the quick work of these units, the fire was quickly knocked down within minutes. Tanker 6 assisted in Water Supply. The Huntingtown Volunteers remained on the scene until 1542 hours. Pictures courtesy of member, Dennis Hook: www.dchookedonphotography.com |
