| Sunday May 5th, the 61st Annual SMVFA Parade was held in Saint Leonard, Maryland. Days before, the members began an extensive cleaning of all the apparatus leading up to the events. Sunday morning, approximately 3 dozen members, Auxiliary members, and our family staffed every single piece of apparatus (Engine 61, Engine 62, Squad 6, Tanker 6, Brush 6, Jeep 6, Ambulance 68, and Ambulance 69). After the parade, the Huntingtown Volunteers participated in EVERY single competition including the Auto Extrication Competition, Hook-up Contest, Battle of the Buckets, EMS Competition, and Firefighter Tri-Atholon. Around 1800 hours, awards were handed out. Huntingtown VFD finished 1st place in the Auto Extrication Competition at 8 minutes and 7 seconds (consisted of stabilizing the vehicle, forcing and removing both front driver and passenger side doors, removal of all windows and windshields, entire roof removal, and "rolling" the dash. This was accomplished with only 2 hydraulic HURST tools operating at the same time. In addition, Huntingtown VFD finished 1st place in the Hook-up Contest at 1 minute and 17 seconds. After the parade, Squad 6 and Ambulance 68 were requested to fill-in at Saint Leonard VFD. Ambulance 68 handled one Medical. Thanks to all the dedicated Huntingtown VFD members, SMVFA, and Saint Leonard VFD. Also, many thanks to our fellow brothers on the Eastern Shore for bringing an Engine and Ambulance to our Quarters and standing by while we were away. All pictures courtesy of member, Dennis Hook.
