This Friday evening, August 17, 2007, at 1617 hours, during the peak of rush hour, the Huntingtown Volunteers, Ambulance 5 (Dunkirk), and Medic Unit were alerted for the serious auto accident at the Route 2/4 split. Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6B (Montgomery), Squad 6 (Hildwine), Engine 62 (Morris), Ambulance 68 (Morgan), and Ambulance 69 (Stewart) arrived to find 4 vehicles and a trash-truck involved. One patient was pinned in the driver's seat with severe damage to the vehicle from being rear-ended. Several other patients were up walking around. The crew from Squad 6 secured and stabilized the vehicle, and utilized the HURST "O" cutters to remove the driver's side door to free the patient. All in all, a total of 10 patients were involved but only two required medical attention. The driver that was extricated was flown to a nearby trauma center by Trooper 8 and another patient was ground-transported by Ambulance 68 to Calvert Memorial. The other 8 patients signed medical releases. Engine 62 handled the Landing Zone. Chief 6 terminated the command at 1713 hours. Both lanes of Route 4 were closed down for 90 minutes due to this incident.

Earlier that day at lunch time, the Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted for the auto accident at Route 2 and Kent Road (only 1/2 mile from this incident). Units again arrived to find 5 vehicles involved with a total of 7 patients. Fortunately again, only one patient was transported and the other 6 signed medical releases.
