Saturday July 21, 2007 at 1924 hours, the Huntingtown Volunteers, Squad 5, Ambulance 58 (Dunkirk), and Medic Unit were alerted to Route 4 and Oxford Way for the serious auto accident. Squad 6 (Hildwine), Engine 62 (Morris), and Ambulance 68 (Stewart) arrived to find a single vehicle overturned with the driver trapped. Bystanders advised the vehicle went air-borne, struck the ground and rolled several times before coming to rest on it's side. The OIC of Squad 6 established command as crews went to work. Squad 6, Engine 62, and Squad 5 worked together in cutting the "A" post and "B" of the mini-van. After the "B" post, the saw-zall was utilized in cutting down the roof of the vehicle between the "B" post and "C" post. This was done because the stability of the vehicle wouldn't allow for an entire roof flap. Once the half-roof was flapped, crews gained entry and removed the driver to awaiting EMS crews. Due to mechanism of injury, the patient was flown to PG Shock Trauma via Trooper 7. Engine 62 handled the Landing Zone. During the incident, Command was also transferred to Chief 5B (Sealey). Units returned to service at 2040 hours.
