| On Friday May 11, 2007 at 1801 hours, the Huntingtown Volunteers and surrounding departments were alerted for the attic fire on Carroll Road, Box 6-01. Chief 6C (Hayes), Engine 61 (Osbourn), Engine 62 (Capt Patin), and Squad 6 (Lt Trasher) quickly responded and arrived to find smoke showing from the single family dwelling. The crew from Engine 61 pulled the attack line and found the homeowner at the front door with a garden hose wetting down a trash bag. However, once inside, moderate smoke conditions were found on all floors including the attic. Also, several handicapped occupants were inside and had to be assisted out. The homeowner advised an improperly discarded cigarette was placed in the bag against the house and quickly burnt through the exterior wall. Crews found fire in the walls, and floor joists of the house and quickly began opening up to expose all hidden fire. Both Huntingtown engine companies were able to make quick work of the fire with the Squad crew opening up the walls and utilizing the Quick-Vent saw to cut open the floor. Engine 21 (Prince Frederick) was utilized as RIT. At 1927 hours, Command was terminated. Command: Chief 6C, Interior: Lieutenant 6. Picture courtesy of Company 2. |
