| The officers and members of Huntingtown VFD would like to congratulate and show our thanks to members Ty Lester and Rick Grierson. Both are seniors at Huntingtown High School. Every day, they leave school early to attend the Calvert County Fire/Rescue/EMS Cadet program in Prince Frederick. This program was started a few years ago to recruit new members and to rapidly receive appropriate training. Classes include Firefighter I, Firefighter II, EMT-B, Haz-Mat Ops, Rescue Tech, Engine Company Ops, Truck Company Ops, Bldg Construction and NIMS training.
Ty Lester and Rick Grierson have set another Huntingtown benchmark. They both scored the highest out of any other cadet in the Southern Md region. These scores are averaged out of all the classes listed above. Because of this, they have been invited to attend the Maryland State competition which will be on March 31, 2007 in Baltimore City. If Ty and Ricky place first in the State competition they will proceed to Kansas City, Missouri and will take place from June 25-30. Once again, congratulations!!
In addition to the cadet program, Calvert County pays for college tuition and provides day vouchers to volunteers that have children. |
