Friday September 1, 2006, Tropical Storm Ernesto slammed Calvert County with high winds and heavy rain causing major damage and flooding to the residents of Calvert County. The day started off unusually quiet but as early afternoon struck, the Volunteers of Calvert County began hitting the streets. In the early evening hours, the Calvert County Commissioners declared a state of Emergency for the County allowing the Volunteers to ask residents to leave their communities along the waterfront.

During the 24 hour stretch the Huntingtown Volunteers responded to approximately 30 runs ranging from trees down, trees through houses, flooding conditions, auto accidents, a couple medicals, and a reported building fire. At one point in time every piece of apparatus from Huntingtown (E-61, E-62, S-6, T-6, B-6, A-68, A-69 and both Chief Buggies) was on the street responding to different calls. A total of 35 Huntingtown Volunteers manned the station throughout the day and night to ensure adequate protection to our citizens. Many thanks and a job well done to Huntingtown VFD and all other Volunteers in the County. Also thanks to the Calvert Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
