After the past two years of working diligently to apply for grant money to replace the airbags on Squad 6, it has finally come. The Huntingtown Volunteers were recently awarded grant funding from MIEMMS and the State Highway Administration to replace the high pressure and low pressure airbags on Squad 6. The life expectancy was between 10-15 years, and they were at the end of this period.

A total of 9 new airbags were able to be purchased from Specialty Rescue, Inc. and were delivered to the station last week. We were able to purchase (1) 1 Ton High Pressure, (2) 13 Ton High Pressure, (2) 19 Ton High Pressure, (2) 21 Ton High Pressure, and (2) 13 Ton Low Pressure Bags along with the new hoses, controllers, and regulators. These airbags are designed to extricate victims, collapses, rescues, etc.

In addition, the Huntingtown Volunteers were recently able to purchase a new Thermal Imaging Camera for Squad 6 (E-61 already contains one). We were also able to purchase two new detection meters for working fires, haz-mat incidents, and air metering. The 5 gas meter was mounted in Squad 6 and the 4 gas meter was mounted in Engine 61.
