| On Saturday March 18, 2006 at 2236 hours, while several of our volunteers were committed upstairs working the Poker Tournament, Box 603 was struck in the area of 3500 Solomons Island Road for the "auto accident, vehicle over the guardrail, on fire, with people trapped." 21 Huntingtown Volunteers composed of Chief 6 (Osbourn), Chief 6A (Riffe), Chief 6B (Hayes), Chief 6C (Spriggs), Squad 6 (Lt Montgomery), Engine 62 (Sgt Nasti), Tanker 6 (Morris), and Ambulance 69 (Gadway, J) arrived minutes later finding a single-vehicle over a guardrail approximately 200 feet into the woods. The engine compartment was well-involved with fire and the lone occupant was trapped in the burning vehicle. A bystander was unsuccessfully trying to free the driver by beating on the window with a wooden stick. Engine 62 immediately stretched an attack line to bring the fire under control and protect our own while the crew from Squad 6 quickly extricated the patient. Once extrication efforts were complete, the crew from Ambulance 69 took over care and the patient was flown to Baltimore Trauma. Tanker 6 handled the Landing Zone and Chief 6 terminated command at 2321 hours. |
