On Saturday March 11, 2006 at 1430 hours, (while Ambulance 69 was committed to a medical local), Company 6 (Huntingtown) was alerted for the 1st due brush fire along with Brush 5 (Dunkirk) and Brush 1 (North Beach) at the end of Stephen Reid Road. Chief 6 (Osbourn), Chief 6C (Spriggs), Captain 6 (Patin), EMS Captain 6 (Mckenny), Brush 6 (Lt Thrasher), Jeep 6 (Safety Officer Bowen) and Tanker 6 (Cox, C) arrived to find a controlled burn that had gotten out of hand due to dry weather conditions and gusting winds. The homeowner's yard and woods were on fire along with the siding of his house. Due to the exterior of his house on fire, Captain 6 established Command and requested the full Box Assignment bringing additional mutual aid companies. With this information provided, three additional crews responded from quarters including Engine 61 (Lt Montgomery), Squad 6 (Sharpe), and Ambulance 68 (Gadway, J). Fortunately, a quick attack by firefighters brought the incident under control and saved the house from further fire spread. The brush fire was extinguished promptly by brush units and the entire assignment was available within one hour.
