37 Volunteers and One Well-Involved House

On Saturday February 25, 2006, in the blistering cold, the volunteers of Huntingtown were busy as usual. 22 of our own members were committed upstairs in the Banquet Hall working the monthly Texas Hold-em Tournament. 7 additional Huntingtown members were filling in at Company 1's (North Beach) annual banquet, covering Rescue 1 and Ambulance 1. While these members were busy, two crews remained downstairs to cover the apparatus.

At 2350 hours, Tanker 6 (Hardesty) was alerted for the working house fire in Company 2's first due (Prince Frederick) on Harvest Grove Lane. Due to supplemental information Communications was receiving, the second crew of 6 Volunteers quickly mounted Engine 62 (Cooper) and headed south at the same time they were being added to the call. Chief 6B (Hayes), Engine 62, and Tanker 6 arrived on location along with mutual aid units to find a garage fully-involved with fire. Crews began an aggressive interior attack pulling numerous 1 3/4" and 2 1/2" handlines. However, due to water supply issues and a partial collapse quickly into the incident, Command (Chief 2A) pulled all units out for exterior defensive operations. Evacuation tones were sounded and units went to heavy duty operations with the use of Tower 2. Units from Huntingtown remained on the scene until 0405 hours the next morning assisting in extensive overhaul. On a side-note: FF Cooper from Engine 62 during the raging inferno was able to make his way into the house and save a tropical fish and his tank from the fire. Engine 62's driver (Cox, C) handled Water Supply.

Just 27 minutes after returning from the fire at 0432 hours, Engine 62 was alerted to cover Anne Arundel Station 42 (Deale) due a barn fire they were battling. Engine 62 remained there until 0607 hours. This finally ended a 24 hour stretch of our guys receiving no sleep. Many thanks to the above 37 Volunteers for being able to cover everything that they did.
