| Tuesday October 28, 2014 at 1617 hours, North Beach VFD Engine 11 & Tower 1, Dunkirk VFD Engine 51 & Squad 5, Anne Arundel Engine 421, Huntingtown VFD Engine 62 & Tanker 6 and Anne Arundel Pumper Tanker 94 were alerted for the House Fire at 9100 Sam Owings Place. The Huntingtown VFD Fire Chief (Spriggs), Deputy Fire Chief (Clark), Engine 62 (Sgt. Miller) & Tanker 6 (Hardesty) responded on the call. As units were responding, Communications advised that a resident was still inside of the house. First arriving, North Beach VFD Chief 1 (Thrasher) reported smoke showing from the 2nd floor of a two-story residence. The Working Fire Dispatch was immediately sounded bringing a 3rd crew from quarters on Rescue Squad 6 (Gaylor). With confirmation that the resident was still inside, Chief 1 advised that he was making entry into the house with a fire extinguisher to attempt the rescue. Second arriving, Huntingtown VFD Chief 6 assumed the “Sam Owings Command” and found Chief 1 removing the female resident from the house. Engine 11 arrived next on location. Huntingtown VFD Firefighter, Trey Spriggs, who had arrived on location in the Huntingtown VFD Fire Chief’s buggie, deployed the 200’ crosslay from Engine 11, backed up by Chief 1. A room & contents, extending into the hallway was found on the 2nd floor, which was quickly knocked down. Engine 62 (4th due), was the 2nd arriving Engine Company and assumed such responsibilities. Picking up and supplying Engine 11, Engine 62’s crew advanced a back-up line to the 2nd floor, opening up the ceiling and checking for extension. The crew from Rescue Squad 6 assumed Rapid Intervention per Command, performed a 360 of the house, placed several ladders and cleared out several windows. After receiving medical treatment, the female resident was placed under arrest and charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder after she allegedly set fire to the house with the intention of killing herself and her family. The Huntingtown Volunteers operated on the scene until 1706 hours.
