| Thursday July 10, 2014 at 1445 hours, the Huntingtown Volunteers & surrounding companies were alerted for "smoke in the basement" at 3925 Capital Hill Lane. Members of the Huntingtown VFD immediately responded with the Deputy Fire Chief (Clark), Safety 6 (McKenny), Engine 62 (Riffe), Engine 61 (Cox, C), Tanker 6 (Curtis) & Ambulance 69 (Martin). After the short 1.2 mile response, units arrived on location of a 2 story split-foyer wood-frame house with smoke showing from the rear. The homeowners, outside, advised that there was a fire in the basement but they were unsure of the exact location. Engine 62 stretched the 200' crosslay to the rear basement door & forced entry. After a short search with the TIC, members found a clothes dryer inside of a laundry room on fire, quickly knocking it down. The crew from Engine 61 opened the surrounding area, finding minimal extension. Prince Frederick VFD Engine 21 checked the floors above for extension, finding none. Less than 10 minutes after the Huntingtown VFD arrival, the Box was held with the Huntingtown VFD & Prince Frederick VFD Engine 21. Due to Squad 6 being out of service for its annual preventive maintenance and no other equipment left back at the station, 6 members came to the scene in their personal vehicles to assist. The 21 Huntingtown Volunteers returned to service one hour after the initial dispatch. Incident Audio: http://www.scanmd.org/public/audio/audioView.cfm?Audio_ID=600 |
