Wednesday April 2, 2014 at 0911 hours, Commerical Haz-Mat Box 2-11 was transmitted for the Ruptured Gas Line at the Calvert Village Shopping Center in Prince Frederick. Huntingtown VFD Deputy Chief 6C (Miller) & Engine 61 (Bevard) responded on the run. Deputy Chief 6C was first to arrive on location confirming a 3" gas line had been struck by contractors next to the strip mall. Engine 62 (2nd due) laid out from a secondary hydrant and stretched the 150' crosslay providing exposure protection to the strip mall. Numerous businesses were affected with elevated meter readings resulting in the evacuation of the premises. Units from the Huntingtown VFD remained on the scene for over 2 hours until Washington Gas was able to secure the leak. Deputy Chief 6C held the "Calvert Village" Command.
