| One hour after midnight on Thursday March 20, 2014, Anne Arundel County Communications alerted units for the House Fire at 624 East Marshall Avenue in the 42-18 box (Deale, MD). As units were responding, Communications received supplemental information from the neighbors that one person was trapped inside. Anne Arundel County units arrived on location of a one-story wood-frame "cottage" with heavy-fire showing. The Working Fire Dispatch brought the Huntingtown VFD Assistant Chief (Spriggs), Deputy Fire Chief (Clark) & Engine 62 (Captain Montgomery) with 9 Volunteers. Engine 62 (3rd arriving Wagon) laid 800' of supply line and arrived as the only unit on Side A of the house. The crew of 7 men stretched the 200' shoulder load to the front door and prepared for an interior attack before being assigned as the Rapid Intervention Team. Once the fire was knocked down they assisted with overhauling before returning to service 2 hours later at 0308 hours. During the primary search, the occupant of the house was found and unfortunately had already perished. Firefighters from Anne Arundel, Calvert, Prince George's & Annapolis City operated on the scene for several hours. Pictures courtesy of Robbie Marshall: marshall3rd.com. |
