During the early afternoon hours of Wednesday November 27, a wintry mix of snow, sleet & rain began falling across the Southern MD region creating havoc on the roadways. At 1400 hours, a Rescue Assignment was dispatched in front of 10020 Southern Maryland Boulevard in Dunkirk for the overturned vehicle. The assignment alerted the Rescue Squads from the Dunkirk VFD & Huntingtown VFD as well as EMS units from both stations. The Huntingtown VFD Fire Chief (Montgomery), Assistant Chief (Spriggs), Deputy Fire Chief, 6B (Riffe), Rescue Squad 6 (Captain Clark) & Ambulance 68 (Lanier) responded on the run. First arriving units found a single-vehicle that had lost control, sliding off the roadway and up a hill before crashing into several parked vehicles. The driver was trapped inside of his vehicle, which was on its side. The crew from Rescue Squad 6 set up several struts to stabilize the vehicle. Once completed, they utilized the HURST "O" Cutters to free the patient. The Huntingtown Volunteers returned to service at 1430 hours.
