| At 3:00 am on September 10, 2013, the Fire Chief (Montgomery), Squad 6 (Lt Montgomery), Engine 62 (Thrasher) & Ambulance 69 (Morgal, H) were alerted for the serious accident at Route 4 & Northwest Drive in front of the Huntingtown North development. Units arrived on location and found a pick-up truck that had slammed into the rear of a dump truck. Crews rapidly went to work on extricating the unconscious driver who was not breathing, suffering severe injuries and trapped extensively. Squad 6 stabilized the vehicle prior to utilizing every piece of HURST hydraulic equipment to free the driver. Both driver's side doors were removed, both "A" & "B" posts were removed, and as the crew began to work on rolling the dash, Prince Frederick Squad 2 arrived on location and assisted with that operation. Engine 62's crew assisted the entire time with the extrication as well as standing by with a charged handline. During the last few minutes of extrication, the patient unfortunately lost a pulse and was pronounced due to suffering injuries unsustainable with life. Squad 6 remained on the scene for approximately 3 hours assisting with Accident Reconstruction. The Huntingtown VFD expresses our condolences and prayers to the family & friends involved in such a tragic accident. |
