| On Thursday June 27th, Huntingtown VFD member Matthew Montgomery tested his firefighter capabilities in the Annual National Vo-Tech Competition in Kansas City, Missouri. The previous month, he scored 1st place in the state competition. Competing with firefighters from around the country, Matt was graded on multiple levels including a written firefighter test, physical agility course as well as an oral interview. At the end, Matt scored 15th place amongst other firefighters from across the United States. More than 15,000 people—including students, teachers, advisors and business partners participated in the week-long event. Nearly 6,000 outstanding career and technical education students - all state contest winners competed hands-on in 98 different trade, technical and leadership fields. This is a huge accomplishment as well as a lifetime experience for all students that get to compete. Congratulations to Matt and for being a fine example of the Huntingtown VFD.
