| Saturday March 2, 2013 at 1330 hours, the Assistant Chief (Montgomery), Captain 6 (Clark), Safety 6 (McKenny), Squad 6 (Lt Montgomery), Engine 62 (Thrasher), Engine 61 (Bowen, S) & Ambulance 69 (Morgal) were alerted for the head-on accident with persons trapped at Bayside Rd & Bristol Drive. In addition, North Beach VFD Rescue 1 & both Ambulances were alerted to the crash. Captain 6 arrived on location and reported a two vehicle head-on crash with a person trapped in each vehicle with CPR being performed on one person. The crew from Squad 6 arrived on location and immediately extricated the driver in trauma arrest. Next, the crew from Squad 6 & Rescue 1 focused on the second vehicle; extricating the patient by removing the roof, a complete side-wall removal of the driver's side & both doors of the passenger side. Engine 62 stood by with a charged protection handline. One person was transported by ground to Calvert Memorial Hospital and the additional person was air-transported to a local trauma center. Engine 61 handled the Landing Zone. The 23 Huntingtown Volunteers returned to service an hour later. Unfortunately the driver of one of the vehicles succumbed due to his injuries sustained. Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved. Pictures courtesy of member, Dennis Hook: www.dennishook.smugmug.com |
