| This past month Huntingtown VFD took delivery of (4) four new Lifepak 1000 Defibrillators (AED's), thanks in large part to the award of a Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) matching fund grant. With delivery of these 4 new AED's, the Huntingtown VFD will be able to apply for and meet the Maryland Seal of Excellence for Engine 61, Engine 62, Squad 6, Tanker 6, Brush 6, Command 6, Car 6 & Utility 6. According to the American Heart Association there are over 800 deaths from coronary heart disease – outside of the hospital setting – every day. In large part attributed to a sudden loss of heart function or sudden cardiac arrest, a victim's chance of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest diminishes by 7-10 percent for each minute without CPR or defibrillation. As a result of this purchase, the Huntingtown Volunteers now have an adult and pediatric-capable AED on almost all pieces of apparatus to ensure rapid, immediate access to a device that can help improve lifesaving outcomes.
