| As many are aware, The Huntingtown VFD has always excelled in training our members to their fullest capabilities as Firefighters and EMT's. When completed with Firefighter I, you are not permitted to ride as a firefighter until you complete the Huntingtown VFD Firefighter Field Training Program. The same applies to members that complete the Emergency Medical Technician Course. The Huntingtown VFD has select members that are designated as Firefighter Field Training Officer's (FTO's), Emergency Medical Technician FTO's and Driver's Training FTO's to assist these members in completing the in-house course(s) and to ensure they are fully capable to perform their essential duties. In 2011, the leadership of the Huntingtown VFD began working on and developing an "Acting Officer In Charge" Program for members to ride the front seat of the apparatus in the absence of an officer. The "acting officer" is taking charge and responsibility of the crew, the apparatus & tools and ensuring all duties & tasks are completed correctly and accordingly to our Standard Operating Guidelines on an emergency scene. In addition, the purpose is to establish a formal training program to prepare and encourage our members to advance and potentially be future officers of this great department. During this year, two sessions of training were conducted. Each session included 12 classes with a total of 24 hours in each session. Members had the opportunity to pick one of the two sessions but were mandated to attend every class. In addition to this 24 hour long class, there are selected MFRI classes that the members will have to of completed. The last in-house training session concluded just this month. The 12 in-house classes are: 1) Progressive Discipline; 2) Documentation & Reports; 3) Fire Behavior; 4) Pride & Dedication; 5) Standard Operating Guidelines; 6) Water Supply; 7) Incident Safety; 8) Strategy & Tactics; 9) Building Construction; 10) Supervision & Management; 11) Size-Ups & Communications; 12) Incident Command To ride the front seat of a piece of apparatus and "act" as an officer in charge, each member must be certified in the following classes:
Congratulations to the following members that have successfully met all requirements:
