| This morning at approximately 0730 hours, Company 7 (St Leonard) was alerted to Mackall Road and Parran Road for trouble breathing. EMS personnel arrived to find a male that had fallen 50 feet down a well. Squad 7 and Chief 7 (Parks) responded on the call to assist the EMS personnel. Upon arrival of Chief 7, Command was established and he immediately requested Huntingtown Squad 6; the only Confined Space Squad in Calvert County. Squad 6 (F/F Nasti) with a crew of 6 responded at 0742 hours and arrived approximately fifteen minutes later. A Confined Space fan and hose was utilized off of Squad 6 to keep fresh air in the well along with meters to ensure the air quality was okay. The Tri-Pod and harness/hoisting equipment was utilitzed to lower a firefighter down the well to the conscious patient. After 72 minutes (from the 1st 911 call), the patient was free from the well and loaded into Trooper 7 for transport to PG Shock Trauma. The patient never lost consciousness and appeared to only have been suffering from possible hypothermia. A job well done to all the personnel that assisted in saving a life. Squad 6 cleared the scene two hours later at 0938 hours. Confined Space personnel also responded to the scene from Company 5 (Dunkirk) and Company 2 (Prince Frederick) Pictures courtesy of St Leonard Volunteer FD (www.slvfd.com) |
