Saturday August 27, 2011 around 2200 hours, Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6A (Montgomery), Chief 6C (Borden), Squad 6 (Lt Nasti) and Ambulance 69 (Lt Stewart) were alerted for the serious auto accident at Route 261 and Camp Roosevelt in Chesapeake Beach, MD. North Beach VFD, normally 1st due was delayed to the scene due to several roads being inaccessible due to trees and wires down. Chief 6 arrived on location and reported a single-vehicle into a downed tree, several high voltage lines down and one person trapped. In addition, winds were gusting between 70-80 mph which mounted onto the safety concerns. Squad 6 arrived on location and due to the distance they parked away from the scene (due to downed trees and wires), carried the HURST generator, Maverick combi-tool and "O" cutters several hundred feet to the scene of the accident. With the assistance of Rescue 1, crews were able to extricate the passenger in a matter of minutes by removing the front driver's side door, "B" post and front passenger side door. In addition, several tree limbs had to be cut and removed with chainsaws to gain access to the patient who was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital.
