Commercial Building Fire in Huntingtown

By Chief Jonathan Riffe
January 6, 2010

Wednesday January 6, 2010 at 1150 hours, Box 623 was alerted at 2470 Emmanuel Court for the wood stove on fire. This assignment brought Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6A (Montgomery), Chief 6C (Morris), Lieutenant 6 (Buckler), Engine 62 (Sgt Williams), Squad 6 (Lt Grierson), Tanker 6 (S/O McKenny) & Ambulance 68 (Forker). First arriving Huntingtown units arrived on location reporting heavy fire showing from a 2-story commercial building with several exposures and explosions in neighboring trailers. The crew from Engine 62 began an aggressive interior attack with (2) attack lines. Squad 6 arrived, completed the primary search and began opening up for the Engine companies. A total of (4) lines had to be deployed to bring the fire under control. Due to outstanding work by all companies, the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. Two civilians were evaluated by Ambulance 68. A Working Fire Dispatch brought additional units to the scene from Calvert, Anne Arundel & Charles County.

Many thanks to Riva FD for filling-in during this incident and their assistance in getting our equipment and apparatus back in service. Units from the Huntingtown VFD operated on the scene until 1514 hours.

Command: Chief 6A; Operations: Chief 6C; Water Supply: Safety Officer 6
