For the past 3 days the East Coast from the Carolina's north have been slammed from Tropical Storm Ida. During this time, the Huntingtown VFD and surrounding departments have been providing coverage to the citizens of Calvert County. Besides the normal trees downs, wires down and flooded basements, no significant problems occurred from the storm. However, on Friday November 13th, a concerned citizen contacted the station in regards to a house being washed away into the Chesapeake Bay in the Needle Estates development (626 box). Chief 6 (Riffe), Squad 6 (Capt Collins), and Brush 6 (Miller) arrived and found 4-5 houses at water level and the foundations being threatened. Crews from the Huntingtown VFD assisted residents with securing the power to their house, filling hundreds of sand bags, and monitoring the situation until high tide. After 90 minutes and peak tide arriving, the crews from Huntingtown VFD returned to service.
