Friday May 17, 2013, members of the Huntingtown VFD were sitting down for lunch when unbeknownst to them, a major accident had just occurred a mile from the station. At 1207 hours, Communications dispatched units for a serious auto accident on Route 4 in front of the Mini-Mart, just north of Ponds Wood Road. As the call was being dispatched, a member ran into the station notifying others that a large black column of smoke could be seen in that area.
Chief 6B (Riffe), Engine 61 (Lt Montgomery), Squad 6 (Jeffery), Tanker 6 (Cox, D) & Ambulance 69 (Jordan) arrived on location and found an accident involving a tractor-trailer, a box truck heavily involved with fire, another box truck off the roadway into the woods and 3 vehicles. Engine 61's crew quickly deployed the front bumper line on the cab of the box truck that was fully-involved with extension into the box itself. The crews from Squad 6, Ambulance 69, Dunkirk Ambulance 59 & Medic Unit began assessing all of the other vehicles and the injured patients involved. In the aftermath, a total of 3 patients were ground-transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Units from the Huntingtown VFD returned to service at 1324 hours.
