By Chief Jonathan Riffe
January 26, 2012

Thursday January 26, 2012 at 1909 hours the Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted for their 6th serious auto accident in the past 9 days. This time, at Route 2 and Pushaw Station Road bringing Chief 6B (Morris), Squad 6 (Capt Nasti), Engine 62 (Sgt Montgomery), Ambulance 69 (Morgal, H) and Ambulance 68 (Osbourn, A) for the overturned vehicle. With units enroute, Communications advised that the police were on the scene with a vehicle on its side and one person trapped.

The 19 Huntingtown Volunteers arrived on location finding the same. Squad 6 split into two crews; one crew stabilized and secured the vehicle while the other crew went to work removing the roof. Initially, crews were going to flap the roof until they realized the patients arm was pinned between the road and roof frame. Instead, all 6 posts (both "A, B &C") were cut along with removing the front and rear windshields. After completion, it was manually raised by personnel to free the trapped person and his arm. Dunkirk Squad 5 (also alerted to the initial dispatch) assisted crews with their personnel. Engine 62 stood by with a charged handline during the extrication process and then re-routed to the Landing Zone. The lone patient was transported by aviation to a local trauma center. Units operated on the scene until 2004 hours.

Units: Chief 6B, Squad 6, Engine 62, Ambulance 69, Ambulance 68
