Serious Auto Accident Due To Freak Accident With Deer

Thursday January 26, 2012 at 1606 hours, Chief 6B (Morris), Lieutenant 6 (Clark), Squad 6 (Captain Nasti) and Ambulance 69 (Fitzgerald) were alerted for the auto accident at Plum Point Road and Emmanuel Church Road. Units from the Huntingtown VFD arrived on location and found an elderly male in a pick-up truck (in the woods) unconscious with severe trauma to his upper body, face and head. Bystanders advised that the vehicle struck a deer, causing the deer to come crashing through the windshield striking the patient. Crews removed the patient from the vehicle and began stabilizing him and treating his wounds. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transported by aviation to a local trauma center. Squad 6 handled the Landing Zone. Huntingtown VFD operated on the scene until 1650 hours.
